Du Vin Crush is pleased to announce that one of our clients, Copia Vineyards has just received rave reviews from Jeb Dunnuck.  All of the Copia red wines received over 90 points including a 94 on The Cure, a 93+ on The Story, and a 93 on The Source. Here is what Jeb had to say about the wines from Copia:

“This is the first set of releases from new owners Varinder Sahi and Anita Kothari, who blended and bottled these 2016s. Both are young winemakers who trained under Eric Jensen (Booker Vineyards) and are working with consultant Peter Turrone (Epoch Vineyards) today. Certainly, if these first releases are any indication, the future is very bright for this team. Made from 100% Grenache, the 2016 The Pope offers a terrific bouquet of kirsch and blackberry fruits intermixed with notes of crushed violets, incense, and dried orange peel. This medium to full-bodied, supple, seamless Grenache is fleshy, forward, and balanced, and ideal for drinking over the coming 4-5 years. The 2016 The Blend (43% Grenache, 34% Mourvèdre, and the rest Syrah) is another outstanding wine from this new team. Impressive notes of red and black fruits, toasted spices, and herbes de Provence like notes, as well as tons of ground pepper, all flow to a medium to full-bodied, charming, savory GSM blend that has loads to love. Drink it any time over the coming 6-7 years. A blend of 80% Syrah and 20% Grenache, the 2016 The Source offers classic Syrah notes of blackberry fruits, pepper, violets, and subtle olive and gamey nuances. It’s concentrated, beautifully balanced, and has a great texture. This wine spent 19 months in 50% new French barrels and is a gem of a Syrah to drink over the coming decade. One of the standouts was the 2016 The Cure, which is 77% Syrah (from l’Aventure) and 23% estate Mourvèdre, all aged 18 months in new French oak. A big, sweet black of ripe black fruits, white pepper, spice box, and hints of chocolate all emerge from this pedal-to-the-metal beauty. It’s one of the larger scaled, richer wines in the lineup, yet it stays light and graceful on the palate, with sweet tannins and terrific length. Don’t miss it. A Grenache-dominated blend that includes 25% Syrah, aged in used barrels, the 2016 The Story is another full-bodied, rich, opulent wine that offers lots of red and black fruits, gamey meats, pepper, and leafy herbs. It shows more and more tannic grip with time in the glass so hide this in the cellar for 2-3 years. www.copiavineyards.com”
